Christina Porter, JD – Director of Performance Improvement/ Risk Management

Christina Porter, JD, is Haven’s Director of Performance Improvement/Risk Management. Porter brings more than 16 years of progressive and extensive experience to the role, including knowledge in accreditation, regulation and licensing; practice administration; enterprise risk management; strategic planning and implementation; patient safety; quality assurance and performance improvement; professional and general liability claims management; and more.

Porter serves as a compliance liaison; among other duties, she directs hospital compliance with laws, regulations and the standards of the accrediting and approval agencies. Legal experience is an asset, and Porter received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1999.

Porter’s experience in healthcare includes a season as Director of Risk Management and Patient Safety for Kaiser Permanente. While working with the nonprofit integrated health plan, she created and successfully implemented the Team Care Process, a multidisciplinary team approach to improving processes and ensuring safety; developed the Taskforce for Obese Patients; and created an online incident reporting system that quadrupled incident notifications.

Porter was operations manager for Monticello Medical Center in Monticello, Indiana, where she reorganized the medical center’s contracts and medical staff binders to bring all files into compliance. She also restructured the accounting department and developed human resource policies and procedures, as well as an employee handbook and standardization of personnel records.

Her resume also includes time spent as an independent contractor and consultant to several healthcare and legal organizations, including Charlton Memorial Hospital, Modoc Medical Center and Strive Rehabilitation.

At Haven, Porter oversees implementation of policy and procedures; identifies opportunities to reduce risk exposure; serves as the hospital Safety Officer and Environment of Care (EOC) Coordinator, advises and assists in compliance-related issues; and implements the Performance Improvement Plan, among other duties.
